Safety reminders

Fire Alert!

For those of you who have attended my "Perfect Circle" safety presentation, here is a reminder about preparing children for hotel fires.

According to an article written by the Associated Press, "a fire spread through the top floor of a small residential hotel in San Bernardino, California, killing four people and injuring 18, as firefighters pulled dozens more to safety."

"The hotel's night manager died after grabbing a fire extinguisher and taking an elevator to the third floor. He and three other adults were later found dead."

"When the elevator door opened, he was right in the middle of the fire - he probably took one or two breaths and that was it!"

The blaze was believed to have started in a 32 gallon, plastic trash can.

REMEMBER!:
1. NEVER assume that the hotel you are staying in will NEVER burn down!
2. Smokers fall asleep with burning cigarettes frequently!
3. Many smokers flick their matches and unspent cigarettes into garbage cans!
4. Many hotel maintenance personnel work on hotel electrical systems. However, the majority ARE NOT qualified electricians!
5. NEVER use an elevator during a fire/evacuation situation if at all possible.
6. Familiarize yourself and your children with the hotels fire escapes and exits as soon as you enter your room.
7. Accidents and catastrophes happen. For peace of mind, arrange a "meeting" place for all your family members in the event of such an occurrence.
8. BE PREPARED AT ALL TIMES!
